Depending on Someone

Depending on Someone

Exodus 16:1-36

God tests Israel here, giving them exactly what they ask for in abundance. He wants to see if they will, “walk in My law or not.” (Ex 16:4) The indicator that we depend on God and trust Him is obedience. Do we trust Him enough to follow His lead in our lives? The test here is trust. The consistent proof of faith is obedience. Jesus would later say, “If you love me, obey my commands.” He didn’t say, “If you love me, feel warm things about me in your heart, cry during worship, or wear Christian t-shirts.” He said we’ll prove our love for Him through our obedience. It is hard to leave Egypt and live with God. And yet, God was patient with them, and He’s patient with us. He gives us opportunities, tests, every day to trust Him. The test as we go about our work or go through our next big or small opportunity is: Will we remember who God is and what He’s already done for us? Will remembering God prompt us to obey Him with our tomorrow? Will we help each other trust and obey Him?
